Regional aviation will return to growth in 2021
Regional aviation remains important within commercial aviation, despite the global health crisis, for 2 main reasons:
- It favors mobility between territories. Thousands of people can travel comfortably and quickly between different geographical areas around the world.
- It is more efficient from an economic and an environmental perspective.
Regional aviation has shown strong growth in the last 2 decades and the prospects for the next 20 years show that this growth would triple (growing 6% per year), a total of 9000 new routes would be generated around the entire world and around 7000 new pilots would be needed.
It is true that the COVID-19 pandemic is being an unprecedented situation and has put an end to all the expectations that could exist, but some international organizations have already spoken about it and have shed some light on the uncertainty for the medium-to-long term.
The International Monetary Fund reports that starting from 2021, the economy is expected to recover the rate of progression that it had last year.
Specifically, it is expected that in 2021 there will be an average positive variation of real GDP of 5.4 percentage points, which favors that the aforementioned regional aviation forecasts take place in the medium term.
